GENE EDITING: CRISPR-CAS9
Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudana
Emmanuelle Charpentier was one of the founders of the CRISPR-Cas9 system. Carpenter was born on December 11, 1968 in France. She studied biochemistry, microbiology, and genetics in Paris at Pierre and Marie Curie University. Through her meticulous work, she was awarded a research doctorate by the Pasteur Institute in 1995. Later, 2012, she worked with Jennifer Doudna and found out how to work the CRISPER-Cas9 system in their favor. From her historical finding with Jennifer, she a has been recognized through many awards.

Jennifer Doudna was the other founder of the CRISPR-Cas9 system. Jennifer was born on February 19, 1964. She is currently at the University of California Berkley, as a professor of Chemistry, and Molecular and Cell Biology. In 2012, she and Charpentier worked together and found out that the CRISPR-Cas9 system could be manipulated to work in their favor. From this honorable discovery, she and Charpentier have been recognized through many awards.
